Easily recognize famous individuals and celebrities using Amazon Rekognition

You can now use Amazon Rekognition to detect and recognize hundreds of thousands of individuals who are famous, noteworthy, or prominent in their field, from movies, television, politics, business, and sports. The Celebrity Recognition feature allows you to index and quickly search digital image libraries for celebrities based on your particular interest. Just as with other Amazon Rekognition APIs, the RecognizeCelebrities API is integrated with Amazon S3 and AWS Lambda, to process hundreds of millions of images per day, whether it be on-demand, in batch, or in near real-time. The RecognizeCelebrities API provides the name and unique identifier of the celebrity, along with a confidence score, and a link to additional information, for example, the celebrity’s IMDB link.

Amazon SQS FIFO Queues with Exactly-Once Processing are Now Available in the EU (Ireland) Region

You can now use Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS) First-in, First-out (FIFO) queues in the EU (Ireland) region. FIFO queues are designed to ensure that the order in which messages are sent and received is strictly preserved and that each message is processed exactly once. Amazon SQS is a fully managed message queuing service that makes it easy to decouple and scale microservices, distributed systems, and serverless applications. Building applications from individual components that each perform a discrete function improves scalability and reliability. Using SQS, you can send, store, and receive messages between software components at any volume, without losing messages or requiring other services to be always available.

SaaS Sellers in AWS Marketplace can now log metering records with AWS CloudTrail

AWS Marketplace, which lists over 3,800 software listings from popular software vendors across 35 product categories, has announced that SaaS sellers can now log metering records using AWS CloudTrail in all regions. CloudTrail is a service that enables operational auditing of your AWS account along with governance, compliance, and risk auditing. AWS Marketplace now delivers all SaaS Marketplace Metering Service metering records to CloudTrail to help sellers with their operational auditing. Sellers can use CloudTrail logs to help test new SaaS applications, while onboarding to AWS Marketplace, or to confirm that records have been received by the Marketplace Metering Service.

Starting now, AWS Greengrass is available to all customers. AWS Greengrass is software that lets you run local compute, messaging, data and state synchronization for connected devices in a secure way. With AWS Greengrass, connected devices can run AWS Lambda functions, keep device data in sync, and communicate with other devices securely – even when not connected to the Internet. Using AWS Lambda, Greengrass ensures your IoT devices can respond quickly to local events, operate with intermittent connections, and minimize the cost of transmitting IoT data to the cloud.

Announcing availability of the AWS IoT Button in Europe

The AWS IoT Button for developers is now available in Europe. Starting today, the button can be ordered in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Spain from the local Amazon retail websites. The AWS IoT Button is a Wi-Fi device that can be used to test, pilot and deploy innovative ideas without the need for development of additional hardware, firmware or networking protocols. A wide variety of use cases can be addressed using the AWS IoT button including home automation, ordering, feedback, notification, integration with third party APIs and many others.

Amazon ECS Adds Console Support for Spot Fleet Creation

You can now create an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Spot fleet directly from the Amazon EC2 Container Service (ECS) console. Amazon EC2 Spot instances allow you to bid on spare Amazon EC2 compute capacity, allowing operating cost reductions of 50-90% compared to EC2 On-Demand instances.
