Third AZ in EU (Frankfurt) Region

Customers are now able to use three Availability Zones (AZs) in the EU (Frankfurt) Region. We launched the third AZ in response to continued growth in the use of AWS in Germany and to provide customers with additional flexibility to architect applications across multiple AZs in Germany for high availability and fault tolerance. This launch brings AWS’s global AZ total to 43 AZs within 16 geographic Regions around the world.

AWS Batch is Now Available in Tokyo

AWS Batch enables developers, scientists, and engineers to easily and efficiently run hundreds of thousands of batch computing jobs on AWS. AWS Batch dynamically provisions the optimal quantity and type of compute resources (e.g., CPU or memory optimized instances) based on the volume and resource requirements of jobs submitted to job queues. With AWS Batch, there is no need to install and manage batch computing software or server clusters, allowing you to instead focus on analyzing results and solving problems. AWS Batch plans, schedules, and executes your batch computing workloads which run on Amazon EC2 and Spot Instances.

Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS) is Now a HIPAA Eligible Service

AWS has expanded its HIPAA Compliance Program to include Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS). If you have an executed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with AWS, you can now use Amazon SNS to build HIPAA-compliant applications and publish messages to healthcare systems that contain protected health information (PHI). Amazon SNS is a fully managed pub/sub messaging service that makes it easy to decouple and scale microservices, distributed systems, and serverless applications. With Amazon SNS, you can use topics to decouple message publishers from subscribers and fanout messages to multiple recipients. Information about HIPAA eligible services on AWS can be found at our HIPAA Compliance page.

Amazon SQS FIFO Queues are Now Available in the US East (N. Virginia) Region

You can now use Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS) First-in, First-out (FIFO) queues in the US East (N. Virginia) region. FIFO queues are designed to ensure that the order in which messages are sent and received is strictly preserved and that each message is processed exactly once. Amazon SQS is a fully managed message queuing service that makes it easy to decouple and scale microservices, distributed systems, and serverless applications. Building applications from individual components that each perform a discrete function improves scalability and reliability. Using SQS, you can send, store, and receive messages between software components at any volume, without losing messages or requiring other services to be always available.

Announcing AWS CloudTrail support in AWS CodeStar

AWS CodeStar is now integrated with AWS CloudTrail, enabling you to access the log of AWS CodeStar API calls through AWS CloudTrail. AWS CloudTrail records API calls for your account and delivers log files to your Amazon S3 bucket. CloudTrail logs can be used to enable security analysis, track changes to your AWS resources, and aid in compliance auditing. Integrating CodeStar and CloudTrail lets you determine which requests were made to the CodeStar APIs, the source IP address from which each request was made, who made the request, when it was made, and more. You can turn on CloudTrail from the AWS Management Console in two clicks. To learn more about CloudTrail, visit the CloudTrail user guide.
