Red Hat has received a “positive” rating from Gartner, Inc. in its 2021 Vendor Rating Report. Among Gartner’s findings is that “Red Hat is still Red Hat,” and retains its neutrality and strategy independent of IBM.

Learn to code for the cloud: Earn native app development skills badges for free

Earlier this year, we launched the Google Cloud skills challenge, which provides 30 days of free access to training to build your cloud knowledge and an opportunity to earn skill badges that showcase your Google Cloud competencies. Today, we’re adding a Native App Development track to the skills challenge, joining the Getting Started, Data Analytics, Kubernetes, Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tracks. The Native App Development track is designed for cloud developers who want to learn to build serverless web apps and Google Assistant applications on Google Cloud using Cloud Run and Firebase. Specifically, you’ll have an opportunity to earn three skill badges in the Native App Dev track: Serverless Firebase Development, Serverless Cloud Run Development, and Build Interactive Apps with Google Assistant. To earn a skill badge, you complete a series of hands-on labs and take a final assessment challenge lab to test your skills.Here’s an overview of each badge.Serverless Firebase DevelopmentTo earn this skill badge, you’ll learn how to build serverless web apps, import data into a serverless database, and build Google Assistant applications using Firebase, Google’s backend-as-service platform for creating mobile and web applications.Serverless Cloud Run DevelopmentFor this badge, you’ll discover how to use Cloud Run, a fully managed serverless platform, to connect and leverage data stored in Cloud Storage. DockerCon 2021: Women in Tech Panel

Go code, learn along the way and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. That was the inspirational message from an impressive all-women group of panelists at this year’s DockerCon Live 2021.

The advice — one of many gems shared in a Women in Tech live panel at the May 27 event — was aimed at girls and women who are thinking of becoming software developers but are hesitant. The panelists themselves were seasoned developers and Docker Captains hailing from different fields within the technology and developer industry. They included:

The panelists dove into the topic of Docker containers and how they make software development much more efficient, as well as use cases and applications for Docker containers. The women spoke of using SQLServer for LINUX in a container, using Docker Desktop for seeing clusters without having to use the CLI and using Docker for automated tests launched in a container.  

But it wasn’t all tech talk. The panelists also led a fascinating, interactive conversation on what it’s like to be a woman in a male-dominated industry and how those experiences shaped us during our careers. Each woman shared their passion for coding and how that influenced education and career choices. Some got hooked on coding after their first programming class, while others learned coding on their own at home. Whichever path they took, the women were united in their love of using Docker containers.

The panelists also explored what constitutes a positive developer experience. All agreed that a helpful, thriving community, like Docker’s development community, is a huge part of any developer’s success.
